The Golden State is facing a huge threat. There are over 22 different wildfires sweeping the third largest state. Over forty lives have been claimed by the blazes. Several dozen people are still missing, their families fear for the worst. Over one hundred thousand people have evacuated their homes. The wildfires have been raging for over a week. Local law enforcement have said that they have the blaze under control. Luckily the anticipated heavy winds never appeared.

The damage is unbelievable. Entire towns have been burned to nothing but ash. Innocent people have been burned beyond recognition. Scientists have had to go as far as using hip replacement serial numbers to identify them. For the few people whose houses have been left standing, smoke damage will be a large problem. Survivors say that even though their houses are damaged beyond repair they are still alive and that is all that matters.

Preliminary damage reports say that this disaster could cost up to $65 billion dollars. Rain is predicted to be in the forecast. That is a gift from Mother Nature that is greatly appreciated. New York has also sent a group of twenty people to help the state.  Smoke is delaying the return of many people to the region. Some cities over eighty miles away for the fires have found that their air quality levels are historically low. San Francisco is warning at risk citizens like children and the elderly to be careful outside.

The residents of Northern California have had their lives changed in the blink of an eye. Many will have to start over from nothing. For those without insurance starting over will be even harder. It will be a slow process building from the ground up for those affected by this terrible disaster.
